Quickwrite: Helen on Eighty Sixth Street

I have dreams and goals to go to Harvard and yet, this goal seems so far away. Therefore I still have time to change myself and know myself. I also had many goals, to be nice to my mother and father. I told them to send me to Carnegie classes so I can change myself to a better person. Through that class I have leaned a lot of things that can motivate myself and others to do more. When our wishes don’t come true, we usually look for another wish, one that faces more of reality. For example, many children wish for Santa Clause to come in during midnight and give them good presents. When they grow older and found out that Santa is not real, they go on wanting to be a basketball player or be on the NASA team. As we grow older, we know more of ourselves therefore we know what to wish. For example, may students later will know that joining the NBA and NASA is almost impossible, so they have goals to go to college or get more education. There are also ridiculous goals, such as trying to get in a relationship and other miscellaneous things. I had a dream that I will once get the president award in sixth grade, and I did. My whole family made a big deal about this. Later I found out that this is not the last thing I will have to worry about, next is something bigger; college, a big word, and a scary one.  As a high school student, I now face many reality and horrors of the true education society. Goals are much harder to achieve and are very real. They are not just ones that you can choose to believe and wait for it to come by itself. You must work very hard and carefully to reach these goals, you must use yourself and test your abilities. That is what I am trying to do in high school, it may start off wrong, but eventually you will get use to it. Once you get that hard start off, you are clean the rest of the way; but of course, if you never change or adapt to new things and always keep with the old, you will become a bad student and your goals will walk further and further away from you.  We must adapt and challenge ourselves.
